Just making sure i have the right bits to convert to disks as I want to flog all the bits i don't need.
I am going to be running 10" wheels so am going to use 7.5" disks and calipers.
I have taken the swivel hubs from my mayfair so just want to make sure that they will be suitable when used with my current drum driveshafts as the driveshafts are the old u-bolt type so i cannot just use the mayfair shafts.
I am then going to rebuild the swivel hubs with new balljoints and then buy a conversion kit to convert from 8.4" disks to 7.5" which includes; Disks, drive flanges, calipers, brake pads and all bolts and screws to fit.
Just want to confirm that this kit and my swivel hubs will just fit straight onto my Mk3 and then i can get rid of the current disks, shafts and drive flanges which i stripped down tonight.
Thanks guys...

Ahhh - just been looking at conversion kits and realised that the kit to go straight from drums to disks have CV joints so will i need these as well?? Will i be able to use the mayfair ones?? If so how do I remove them??
Thanks..

The drum braked CVs are smaller than the disc brake ones, IIRC I think you can just swap the joints, But I am not 100% sure.

the inner pot joints are the same, the driveshaft itself is the same, the outer cv joints are as siggy says, small for drum, large for disc i've swapped driveshafts and cv joints around a fair bit in the past and they fitted fine. obviously if you have different inner joints (hardy spicer or the spider type), the drive shafts will be different on the inner end, but the outer end is the same.

Cheers guys. Got the CVs off no probs tonight so can now flog the shafts (pot joint type), calipers and drive flanges. Also have some disk shield things if any one is interested..
Pippy - am skint at the min and will probably be doin all the bodywork first so it might be a while before i actually do the conversion but i'll post up some pics and anythin else you might need to know for the conversion when i do it

BB As its an early car it does not have Pot joints, it will have Quntion Hazel cross joints, or possably Universal joints.

changing from drum to disk's is quite simple, when you have all the parts, as it has been said before the outer joint for the disc brake is bigger than that of the drum so if you are taking one of a differant car, you need to remove the drive shaft complete with pot joint (something i forgot to do, so need to get new one's before i convert).
point to note! the pot joint wont fit through the sub frame, the drive shaft needs to be fitted through the subframe from the engine side(with the hub removed of course),
best way to do it is to fit the drive shaft's then fit the hubs, fit the flexi hose to the callipers then fit them to the hubs.

job done, don't forget to bleed the brakes before you go anywhere :D
