Hi guys, I am looking for some help with a code reader. I have seen the ones you can buy on ebay that simply plug into a laptop and I like them very much. Now I should explain I am a bit of a sucker when it comes to MG-Rover cars. I like them a lot!!!!
I currently have a MG ZR which replaced my Rover 25. I am looking to get a ZT in the future which runs on rover testbook however it will do basic comunications with OBD II. Now I want something that is OBD II and will comunicate with the MEMS system in my early MPI, ideally I would like something I could plug into my laptop.
I can get hold of the leads and basic OBD II software for my laptop, so I guess ideally I am looking for some software that would work on my laptop.
Or if someone can suggest a handheld code reader that will read fault codes and reset them for OBDII and the MEMS system on my MPI then I will happily consider it.
I must stress it does not have to be a laptop product but something that will work and is not expensive, there is a Crypton ACT system on ebay at the moment for £300 :ohno:

Many thanks, even if it just read's MEMS I can buy the OBDII scanner for £15.
Just would have preferd something I could run from a laptop, or something that would read both.

The Mini MPi has the standard OBD socket but is not OBD compatible and most readers will not work. Have a look at the SPi Code Reader pinned thread on the Injection Mini Specific - SPi/MPi section of Problems, Questions and Technical on this forum. Much of this is relevant to MPis.
A Sykes Pickavant ACR4 with Rover pod v3 or v4 and harness is a good method. The software is in the pod and you do not need a computer but you can connect to a computer using extra equipment mainly to get printouts or save data.
There is a Crypton reader that will work but I do not know the details.
