I'm not sure - but I believe the current white is slightly less white i.e a bit creamier - than I remember the original Sky and Rose to be. The current colour doesn't seem to be creamy enough for Old English.
Took the bonnet to Morleys in Derby and they put some type of meter on the paint to work out what colour it is. However at this point they advise that this process works very well for 2K but they have to find something to cross match against in cellulose.
So then we end up looking at colour swatches. We find something close and they mix up half a litre. They could have done 0.25 litre but I was hopeful it would be ok.
Anyway am getting close to spraying and decides to dob a bit of the matched paint on the wing. It seems far too white.
Have had a look on the receipt and it turns out they have given me a Fiat white. Doesn't matter if it were close but I do wonder if the previous owners restorers / garage would have tried to find a Rover or Leyland white rather than going to a different car makers colour.
Of course it's bank holiday so can't go anywhere else to get some paint till tuesday.
What's everybody else's experience with paint matching - white. I'm going to have another go with a paint supplier in Nottingham - and will buy a smaller quantity this time.
I think I'll go and have a look at the door bins - I doubt they were resprayed - perhaps I can convince myself to have a go with the paint code from original - if I can find it.
Cheers
Steve
