Hello,

I wanted to ask about painting engine bay hoses.

I know you can buy those really nice coloured silicone hose sets in red, yellow, black, blue etc. but they are expensive and as such can we paint hoses and do it on a buget?

I was thinking about spray paints and heat resistand clear laquer but I dont want the hoses paint to peel and flake off thats why I'm asking if it can be done and if so, which products should I use if so?

I'm Still learning as always.

Chris.

My mate used a coloured tape to wrap his pipes but it didn't look great once they got a bit dirty. I don't think you could paint them and it stay there, I'd say over time it would flake off

you cant paint on rubber easily as it wont 'stick'. as soon as the paint drys it will just flake off.

best bet is to get tyre paint :D

Wouldn't they just get hot and chip the paint off though? That's what happened to the blue paint on my block

tyre paint is more of an ink, it absorbs into the rubber rather than form a surface on top

You can paint on the silicone hoses but when they have any flex the paint cracks & then gradually starts flaking off

Looks like I will just have to save up for some silicone hoses then :( as by the sound of things, paint will only come off (Flake/Crack) and tape will look a mess in no time at all.

What about braded hose covers or those braided sleeves (sure I've seen them) could this work and do the job or cant you use such things over rubber heater pipes due to temps etc?

If your hoses are in good condition (they'd have to be in perfect condition to paint them anyway if it were possible) then just keep them shiney with WD40 or bumper black and they look fine.
