My rev counter works every morning on start up for about a minute then stops and doesnt work until the following morning!

I've checked all the connections on the back ( its a 3 clock) and on the coil but cant find anything wrong :s. Any ideas?

and is it worth taking apart the clock to have a look inside as the previous owner of my car seems to have left it outside at some point judging by the sycamore seeds between the gauges :o . And if so what would i be looking for, im not familiar with clock workings ! :)

Cheers :D

Its the connections at the coil, give them a good clean, it seems like they're rusting, what today is an intermittant rev counter, tomorrow can be a missfiring engine.

also check the connections on the back of the rev counter i had one once where the bullet terminal on the back of the rev counter was loose and made an intermitent connection so check that the bullet connector does not twist or flap about when prodded

I cleaned the negative on the coil and the connections on back of the counter itself and still the same problem

You have too much confidence in me.

For intermittent problems my thoughts were the same as yours... poor connections. If all the connections are clean and the problem continues to surface each day after about 1 minute of running, that suggests that there is something associated with the tach that is heating up and "opening". This could be a cold solder joint, a failing capacitor, or some other "tired" old component. My suggestion at this point will not sound very helpful... try a new/different tach to rule out any remaining wiring issues.
