hi

im new to the forum, i've own a red 1980 Clubman 1275 GT (few pics attached) for a few years now which i restored from a rusty lump a few years back and im about to start making my own dash from sratch as my current one is getting tatty (i only re-covered the dash that was there and i wasnt pleased with it then).

first i need to know what i need to buy as i've never made a dash before.

what wood works best and is easy to cut/shape (ply, MDF...) and what thickness, i was thinking 10mm,
im planning on wrapping the dash in black leather vinyl. i have done a bit of searching and have made my self some templates for the dash.

any help, tips and advice would be great, im a mechanical engineer by trade but have never worked with wood so this is a bit of a learning curve

thanks :)

Matt

I used 11mm(I think) MDF and it works fine

I have a dashboard build thread on here somewhere, I'll find it for you

I used 12mm mdf - worked great - Snapped a few times, but I had most of the middle of the dash cut out for gauges.

Check my build thread in the Honda section - noobs budget vtec - the dash is on the first few pages!
