I know your all going to jump at me now and say cooper s but before doing so.....
I am only 21, cooper s would be £300/year more insurance.....
Cooper s would be significantly more to buy......
Right well those things out of the way I am joining the mini family from having a VW Golf MKIV GT TDI.....
I am really thinking that for the moment I would be better money wise going for the cooper, then changing to the cooper s in say 2 years when im older and richer.......
However..... the cooper has 115bhp I believe which is the same as my golf, but it will be significantly down on torque, am I going to find it a fair bit slower and more boring, missing the torque?
Are there any other main diffs between the cooper and the s other than the engine itself? Sorry but Im a novice.....
Thanks in advance
Sam
Do I get a mini cooper or cooper s?

ok to be fair the figures dont quite tally.
The most important thing to remember is that if your doing 30 mph in a classic it feels like 60 so forget the bhp and come along for the ride!!
ps a bini is pretty much the same size as a golf so you may feel a lack of power

I reckon a gtitdi golf would feel a hell of a lot quicker than a Bini Cooper, and you'd probably be horrified at the fuel bills for the 'S' compared to your golf.
The cooper and S aren't very much different, even the engine is the same, only the S has got a supercharger and also comes with a 6 speed gearbox.
Out of the two, i'd have neither
There's still plenty of real minis about

Personally, I'd go for a mini one rather then the cooper, and get it chipped
If you have to buy one at all... it's realy only a trim upgrade, and the suspension is upgraded... mechanically I believe they are identical.. with the exception of the power which is 25 more in the cooper, but as above you can re-chip the mini one to over come that, and add an extra 15 if you want.

Very good point, i think i remap for the One is about £300 which gives more power than a cooper. Although this does invalidate the warranty unless you get a switchable one meaning you can cheat. But that would be very naughty!!!
I think there were a few suspension differences depending on what pack you ordered e.g pepper, chilli
My friend had a cooper with the sport plus , but i think this can be specified on the One aswell.
I am probably a little harsh on the Bini, i bet a supercharged one would be fun. Although my mates cooper feels quick, but then most things do compared to my mini
I quite like the interior too.
