I used to go out with 14psi in the Caterham on A032R's during qualifying (they ended up at 22psi), but most race drivers like to put 3 steady laps in before they get going, due to MSA regs.

I would agree - start at 40 psi all round then adjust to suit your needs.
What a load of rubbish, you need to run less pressure, as tires warm up the pressure increases...............
i take it you know by experience
i raced historic for 4 years in a full race cooper s in AUS
we had to run the tryes hard as i say 39f 36 b cold, ( everyone did ) ordinary falcons
they went up about 4 lb when hot, the tyres we used to get taken down
to 2 mm tread to help road holding. we then later were allowed to us
later we were allowed to use hoosiers 26f 24b great tyres
heres the car with the falcons on with 3 deg camber as well
everyone ran like this

but when i started the aoo8 and dunlop were banned
and we could only use the falcon , after a couple seasons. people were complainig about the falcons
they brought in the hoosiers. i did get some avons to try from the UK, they were a bit of a handful
and they were run lot less pressure. but were to soft for AUS
hoosiers wernt to bad in the wet either

I would start a few psi less than normal road pressure and keep increasing in 2psi intervals, do a few laps each time, you will soon see the difference
How long your tyres last is also another consideration vs the above!!
