Hi can anyone tell me which fuel pump will be good enough for a supercharger please.

Been waiting on vmax to get back to me but he takes ages to reply. P&L minis are just up the road from where i work so i can just pick one up from there.

Im going to guess i need to blank the old mechanical fuel pump off too?

Cheers

Alright Nick. I would probably go for the first one. I can't remember which one mine is, I've had a look but due to the way it's mounted I can't see which model it is, it is a Facet one though. It's worth buying a fuel filter that attaches to the pump too (it replaces one of the unions), they aren't expensive I don't think... I believe you'll need a pressure regulator too (I believe mine is set to around 3.5 psi although to be honest I'm not sure, it was set up by the rolling road).

You can buy a fuel pump blanking plate from Minispares, I would imagine P&L would sell them too. Just make sure you use a gasket and shorter bolts. The original fuel pump has a plastic spacer plate between the pump and the block so the original blots will be too long unless you use the spacer block too.

Cheers,

Jon.

No problem, Well the pressure regulator allows you to increase or decrease the pressure depending on your engine spec instead of just forcing the fuel at the pressure the pump provides. I was told by Stuart at Vmax that I needed one, although I don't know for certain. If you buy a combined fuel filter pressure regulator you have the advantage of having an additional fuel filter. A pre-filter before the fuel pump that I mentioned earlier and a filter before the carb.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers,

Jon.

Nice one mate, if you get the chance could you get me some photos of your plumbed in please.

How easy are the fuel pumps to plumb in?

What power are you looking to run? SU's run at 3psi so the 2nd pump would be the best option - if it pumps enough fuel. If you need more go for the other one and a regulator.

"Brake specific fuel consumption" is what you need to select the right pump.

Yeah, just been out to take some...

You can see the pre-filter that the fuel line attaches to. The pipe you can see is from the tank (In) and the outlet joins to the fuel line that runs under the car. There is a eched arrow on the top of the pump which shows the direction of flow so they are dear easy to plumb in. I took the tank and the rear seat back out and drilled two holes in the rear bulkhead. I then made two rubber spacer blocks out of some old fuel line to act as a damper as the electric pumps can sometimes get a bit noisey (they make a ticking sound). Make sure you use some thread tape or equivelant on the unions to prevent them leaking. You can Earth it to the bulkhead and then you just need to wire in the live. You'll need to find a switched live or fit a switch in the circuit.

The pressure regulator is under the bonnet. The fuel line that comes up from under the car (from the pump) just attaches to the inlet of the pressure regulator and the from the outlet to the carb. It's pretty simple to do.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Jon.

Ethel as much as I can haha.

Thanks Jon hopefully I can get it plumed in next week, did you get yours from vmax or else where?
So do they just fit into the standard fuel hose or just use the adaptors you can get?

Cheers

Yeah I got mine from Vmax. Doesn't matter where you get them from though. If you are going for good power, I'd go for the higher pressure pump, at least you can control the pressure with a regulator...

You can get different sized unions. I can't remember whether you get both 6mm and 8mm unions although I believe you do. Then depending on which internal diameter fuel pipe you are using, just use the most appropriate one. You shouldn't have a problem with the standard fuel hose.

Cheers,

Jon.

This is what Stuart who has currenty got my engine and building based on installing one of his kits asked me to get when I was buying a whole lot from Mini Spares:

Part Numbers - SS503, FPA906 and FPR005.

Fitted and all working fine, how do you get the adjustment correct on the fuel pressure regulator? I'm guessing the bolt on top of it?

Thanks for all the help people.

I'm running a Facet red top fuel pump with no fuel pressure regulator. Fuel pressure is 8psi, works well for me..

Yeah it is the bolt on the top that adjusts the fuel pressure I believe. Not sure how you check what the pressure is though, I'm guessing you need a gauge of some sort?

Yes Jon, I'm running a fuel pressure gauge...
