Hello all, I am somewhat confused. My 1993 1293cc Cooper has been in my garage now for about 2 and a half years, I am gradually when I have time doing various bits and pieces, ie digging out rot, prepping and getting it welded amongst all the other jobs that need doing, rear subframe etc, and over this time I have been starting her and running her with no issues. I noticed the other day that when I turned the lights on to be able to see the fuel gauge and how much petrol was in there, the dash lights were not working, so I check the fuses, in the 4 fuse block and the 3rd fuse down had blown, so I change it, switch lights on, fuse blows again! How can this be, how can it suddenly go from working fine to now blowing a fuse. I have not done any work on any wiring so cannot work out how its blowing all of a sudden, and what with being rather badly colour blind me and electrics don't get on, and how do I trace it with all the wires to look at!!!

Check the wires under the grill may have come apart and be shorting to earth, the only way is to use a multimeter and start tracing the fault.
I had a fault similar and it was the side light bulb holder contacts touching together.
