How about soundproofing the floor under the carpets?
You can get the stuff on ebay :)

Probably not much you can do to the engine; Make sure it is well maintained, tappets are adjusted, exhaust is free from leaks etc.

Is your car standard or modified? Cone airfilters and straight-through exhausts are much noiser than standard items. Solid subframe mounts are favoured by many on the forum but conduct road noise into car.

Best bet is to install extra sound deadening on floor and bulkhead.

Cheers everyone, will do, got a bulk pack of silent coat to install so that should help, was just wondering about the engine more than road noise, thanks for your replys though guys :)

Does sound deadening material on the bonnet- like the Newton on in the link- make much difference in noise?

Leave the wife at home.

I Noticed a quieter drive when I used a little insulation under the rear parcel shelf.

Perhaps a silly question...but does the sound deadening blankets for the engine bay and additional sound deadening on the footwells attract or hold moisture promoting corrosion.

My mini is garage kept and not driven in bad weather but I still have to remain vigilant to stay ahead of the rust...It's a mini.
