hey people,

i have two litres of liquid rust inbihitor and im wondering if after having my shell shot blasted, rather then painting it straight away then doing all the welding, can i just spray it with the inhibitor to keep the rust at bay as its going to be sitting around for a while.

cheers.

luke.

Just sounds silly to me. You want to get it in etch primer ASAP after blasting. Preferebly there if they provide the service

Have it epoxy primered with lechler epoxy at the blasting place.

You can then leave it under a sheet and come back to it in 10 years time.

=1 for epoxy primer. My Countryman shell was sandblasted and epoxy primered years ago by the guy I bought it from. Then he just let it sit in his garage. There is no new rust, no bleed through anywhere in the areas that were primered (he did not blast or primer the panels that needed to be replaced and they continued to rust).

when i worked at acid dipping place ihibitor is only really used with the jetwash so it dont rust while cleaning it off if you were to then leave it outside for a day and it rained it would form surface rust so really no need for using it imo

If you use epoxy and get down to clean metal you wont need a rust inhibitor.
