HI there,
I have lowered Gaz adjustables fitted to my clubman.
I had to remove one to get to a mangled rusty nut at the rear of the backplate.
Only problem is that now I'm trying to refit the strut, I just can't get the upper top rubber (and the one below the mount) in the boot to compress enough to allow the various washers to fit asnd the nut to bite into the thread.
I have backed off the hi-los so there is no problem poking the top of the damper through the mount hole, but it just compresses when I try and push it up.
When I did this first, earlier this year, I had help but I just cant' remember how we did it!
There's bound to be some sort of trick to this, but I was just too tired last night to be inventive enough!
Please share your collective wisdom.

I always fit the top nut first, on any car, as when you are trying to put the bottom bolt back on, you can put the wheel back on, and lower the car to the floor and then put the bolt in easier

You can use a jack to lift and compress the shock until it pushes more of the thread into the boot area past the rubber bushes. If the very top of the unit is badly rounded off with numerous mole grips being used to tighten it up, try a spanner under the wheel arch right at the top, my old Gaz shocks had a big blob of weld there and fitted into a 14 or 15 spanner nicely.
