Hi guys I will need to do some welding soon at a garage with no power, and my question is what size generator do you recommend to run a mig welder?

I have an old sip 130 mig and have a chance of getting a 5hp honda generator suitable for 110v and 240v also I would love to run a small 50ltr air compressor and would like to know what would be suitable for my needs.

many thanks

Steve

We run a meaty welder off a 2kw genny. If you are only doing car bodywork then the powere needed isn't silly. If you want to weld 10mm plate it will be different......... We also run a compressor but our bigger one is fine and the smaller one trips every time - it 'spikes' the current draw when the motor kicks in. The 200 litre v twin one works fine.
