Hi all,
I'm a newbie to the forum and was looking for some advice please.

I've recently bought a 2005 Mini One Convertible 1.6 33,000 miles and am finding that the actual combined fuel consumption I'm getting is about 20-24mpg. There aren't any immediate signs of any problems other than a bit of clutch noise (this is being replaced next week).

The dealership I bought the car from are suggesting there isn't an issue and it's just the way I'm driving but I know this isn't the case and have spoken to other people with the same car, same age, driving style etc and they seem to think this isn't normal either.

Have checked the air filter too and it looks nearly new.

Any other suggestions would be really appreciated! Is there a typical fault etc?

Many thanks!

A worn clutch can easily cause hugely increased fuel consumption if it's slipping, I'd wait until after that has been done and check your figures again. The fact that a 7 year old car on 33,000 miles needs a new clutch also points to it having had a fairly hard life, once it has been replaced if the economy doesn't improve you should arrange a full service including a diagnostic readout.

I've got a couple of Coopers, ones a 2002 and the others a 2003, and both only return about 25-27mpg around town. The fuel consumption for the first generation of MINIs is not that good compared with other cars.
You might want to check out http://www.mini2.com/forum/ , as that is a site dedicated to the MINI, this forum is for the Mini.
