Everythings gracy with the new mini, but just have a q about a knocking noise when you lift of the acceleration pedal. Sounds like its coming from underneath the seat and Im not sure what it is.

At first we thought it might be the engine support mount (think thats what it is called, see pics below).

If Im way off, what could it be? Subframe bush? Driveshaft? exhaust bracket movement?

We think it is this support rod, can anyone confirm if it is and exactly what this part is called? Any help would be great. Thanks :D

you can change the bushes on that engine steady for poly ones and fit an additional engine steady, (normally called the ultimate engine steady) to the otherside of the engine if you wish. (it fits to the thermostat housing usually).

check the other engine mounts aswell.

if it sounds like its coming from underneath it could be the exhaust hitting the tunnel, so check the engine mounts.

Thats your engine steady and yes if the bolts or bracket have failed your engine will rock and knock against the bulkhead. If you can rock the engine by hand you wiill be able to see where the brackets/bolts have failed.

I think it could be the exhaust hitting something, maybe the tunnel, or maybe the gear selector as there isn't that much room under there. As others have said try rocking it by hand and seeing if you can reproduce the noise. Its probably caused by deteriorated engine steadies, but could be the clamp from the bottom of the manifold to the engine, letting the exhaust rock around.

Problem has been sorted. The mounts did need tightening up which was causing the exhaust to hit the bottom of the car (which was too high anyway).

So mounts tightened and new exhaust bracket has solved the problem. Thanks guys.
