[Island Mini]

My automatic mini shifts fine manually (1,2,3,D) but when i start from D it works fine (bit sluggish but i guess thats normal) but wont shift into 4th gear and acts like it doesn't exist until i shift to 3rd and then back to D where it slips in. I know the gearbox is a little worn and no hope of getting one down here at a reasonable price, so any other way to fix this?

whats the engine oil like & how slack is the gear selector cable ??
also i take it there is no sliiping when 4th is engaged fully or when reverse is engaged ?

id also suggest regular oil changes with the correct oil
