Hi all. Long story short, I had to have my Mini Tuned up yesterday so it could pass its emissions on its MOT this morning. As Stage 1 kit made it up to 12,000 when should of been below 3,000. Opps :P Anyway its passed! Whoo!. Anyway it now runs like a right pig, Its misfiring on idle so you can hear a little popping noise. & its slow as hell, it used to be a nice little runner pulling away in 2nd to keep up with traffic. Now it looks like im holding traffic up as there just not much power. When im pulling away it sort of thinks a little bit then gives the power, where as before it use to be right there.

Also on way home from MOT, i stopped at some lights on idle.. & it just stalled?!
And.. Last week it had its MOT while on emissions the guy must have put the accerlator to the floor.. & No joke it must have gone into the Redline. Never drove it from then since yesterday, get in to start it up to turn around on drive way & it was only running on 3 Cylinders? The Tune up man said it was clogged up of sot on the sparks plugs. I totally blame the guy reving the guts off it for this. I was fine before?

So with the help of my dad later im going to turn the fuel mixture thing (Under the Carb) around half a turn to it has more fuel going through? Will this cure it?

Regards,

I think they might have just leaned the mixture off quite a lot to bring emmisions down, you cant just turn it a rough amount and expect it to run well, but if an extra turn of the mixture screw helps it run better then that means its probably the mixture causing the problems.
I highly doubt the problem was caused by revving the engine.
You could check the colour of the spark plugs as this is sometimes a good indication of how rich/lean the engine is running, they should be a biscuit-y light brown, if the ends are white/really clean then its lean, if black and sooty then its too rich.

Yeah the auto tune man said its pretty much running on fumes, and if it struggled try pulling ok choke to make it go. & if it suddenly shoots off then it's running too lean and needs turning up.
& yeah the spark plugs were massively black when he took them out, that's why it was running on 3 cylinders yesterday.

He leaned off mixture then revved the engine to clean up everything so CO drops down.
Pointless if you're redilining, you should rev it at 2.5k rpm for 30 sec, engines are usually a tad rich at top end.

Ok :) Just me worrying about her then ha! :P
Sk shall I turn mixture up a little? Like a 5 min turn on a clock? That too much or too little?

5 mins clockwise wont be enough, they probably raised the jet a couple of flats. You dont know how much they messed..
If you're richening mixture, exhaust note smooths out at a certain point?

I'd be tempted to give a check at points gap and ingition advance.
Anyway if it has been running rich for a while, combustion chamber are well choked and you need to clean them to make it run properly once it has been set up correctly..

Were the correct Lucas style points fitted with the plastic fork over the pin or Intermotor non sliding points?

Yeah they were.. Just tryed to change the mixture screw but couldn't get to it, doing it at weekend and removing engine mounts to push it forward. Also just found out spark plugs wern't on properly.. That seems to have stopped the poping misfire.
