i guess you want an dock for it. like a HARMON KARDON, with the phono outputs. for the amp. then you wouldn't need a head unit.
no doubt.. Ruckus will be along to tell you how its really done haha

i saw a VW beetle with an ipad as a head unit tailored into a custom dash at edition 38 2011. it was sick it wasnt like the others you see which are just mounted onto something screwed to the dash.

I would also like to see what the ice masters here would say?

I have an ipod set up on my motorcycle. I have a docking charger with rca outputs to a Lanzar Mini Max MNX250 -1000watt amp. Running two Kicker DS650's and two 10C84 Subs.
I plan to do a simular set up using the ashtray on the dash as a docking point. I'll probably go with a 4 channel in the car though.

there's a shop out in california USA that sells the mounting kits for ipads into vehicles, they make fiberglass pans that hold the ipad
when i get around to the ice in my mini, im gonna go the ipad route for my system

I've built my iPad into my mx5. And it will be going into my mini as soon as I start on the interior.

Wow that's amazing,
Could you do a similar thing with a centre console with a Mini.
I would certainly buy one.
