So I bought these two covers off of Retro Retrims, top and bottom.

I removed my dash rail covers, the top one I prized the foam off and look at the rust, it's knackered. The bottom cover doesn't have a piece of metal under it, it's just foam.

Do I need to put the leather covers over the foam? The foam is quite thick so if I just put the cover on the metal pictured above it wouldn't look right. Also, would it be a tight fit for the switch panel with the leather over the foam?

I'm assuming I need to cover the lower foam with my leather, and get a new dash rail with no rust then leather over that?

I'll have to find a local upholsterer to do it for me as my hand is badly injured.

Can't comment on the top rail because i have never done one, but the bottom is very straighforward.

Large table covered in paper to protect it and carefully mark out the centre point. (Chris may have done this for you).

Use quality spray glue and use as directed but only 6 inches each side from the centre (both pieces)

Make sure you centre correctly and smooth into place.

Spray the glue on either side in turn and use the stiching as the line against the ridge on the moulding.

The switch panel will be tight, but my top tip is to put the panel in reverse (the rounded edge won't knick the cover) and leave for a while to allow it to stretch the cover until ready to fit .

Hope this helps.

Check my build thread for some pictures.

Regards

Steve

Thanks Steve, I'll check your thread!

I'll probably attempt it myself when my hand is out of its splint. So you reckon best method for the lower is work from the middle to the edges? Did you use any clips on the leather afterwards like the standard top rail has?

Done 2 now and definately easier to do in stages. Can't comment on the clips for the top sorry as my car doesn't have a top rail.
