The very best guy is Chris Spennewyn. His workshop is on the A600 just north of Hitchin. Go through Ickleford on the main road, into the 40 limit, around the double bends by 'Pound Farm' then turn right by the next building. He is through the large metal gate. You'll know you're in the right place as there will be many mighty Minis there. If you want to call him his number is 07976 736885. His work is so good that he restored the famous 33EJB and AJB44B 'works' rally cars and he is a good friend of mine.

He is extremely reasonable. He also owns an ex-works Cooper 'S' CRX88B plus a 1960 Mini 850, a 1967 Cooper 'S', and a Wolseley Hornet, so he's a true enthusiast. I've known him for about 23 years and we've done work together on Mini problems.
Go see him and make your own mind up.

Oooh, this sounds promising! After being stung by a couple of garages locally, it's nice to hear a recommendation! I'll bear him in mind next time I need some work done - thanks Cooperman

I don't have his postal address, but just go north up the A600 towards RAF Henlow. After you leave the Ickleford 30 limit and it goes to 40 limit, go about 1/2 a mile and his workshop is on the right at the only buildings there. Behind the house is a small industrial estate and he is there. Normally he's there from about 10-00 to 13-00, then 14-00 to 18-30 Monday to Friday and 10-00 to 13-00 on Saturday.
At the moment he is doing a complete restoration on one of the 1966 Monte Carlo Minis - the disqualified Group 1 cars.
