Anyone know where I can get a set of keys for my Min?
Previous owner lost the keys, so although everything matches as they haven't been changed, I have no keys. Obviously getting some new ones is better than replacing all the locks and ignition barrel.

Suggestions as to where I can get some, and how to find whatever identifying marks it is I need to get them cut to the required pattern, would be very much appreciated.

Hi,ive just had the same problem!
if you take the door handle off ( which is only 2 screws) if you look at the end of the lock barrel there is a code stamped into the end of it that will be the key code.if you know a mobile car locksmith they can usually cut one there and then.alternatively i have seen the boot and two door lock set on ebay brand new for about 26 quid delivered!

If you have the number you probably won't need to get one cut, the keys used are available from classic specialists and auto jumbles and even many key cutters pre-cut to the various numbers. There were only something like 100 differs in the series, only around 12 of which have been used on the Mini I seem to remember. You just used to go to the dealership with your number to get new keys. The ignition lock is trickier though, I don't think the number is stamped on it anywhere.

Ah, that's the crux of what I'm after Dan, whether to just buy a new ignition barrel and lock set or get keys cut.
I guess it's 'easier' to just get a lock set and a new barrel. Like bulldogthirty4 said, they're quite cheap on eBay.

Thanks

It depends on how good the door locks are, when new they are quite good locks but they wear out quickly. If they are worn and can now be opened with anything then I'd replace the lot but if they are good then leave the doors alone. Get new door keys and a replacement ignition lock and fuel cap. You could get a locksmith to cut a key from the lock for the ignition but it would probably cost more than a new lock to do that. Other than getting the shear bolts moving in the first place which is tricky if you haven't done it before, replacing the ignition barrel is far simpler than changing the door locks anyway.

Although I've just realised I'm making assumptions about the age of this car, what Mini is it?

It's a '72.
Already undone the shear bolts, had to because the steering lock was on!
Not the first time I've had the 'pleasure' of doing that either.

Ignition connector is a multiplug with male spade terminals, 4 wires.
Found a couple on eBay, so I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet eventually and get the damned thing.

The door locks and catches seem nice and tight, so I'll chase around for a local key-cutter who can cut for the lockset.

For any type of locked door problem, ignition problem, contact Hollywood locksmith.I have a car problem for any mechanically inclined folks out there. The ignition on my girlfriend's car locked up tonight while she stopped at a gas station on the way home. She had to have it towed back here. The key would not turn at all, not even to the on position. The car (an automatic) was in park with wheels pointed straight ahead. No problems removing or inserting the key, and the key does not appear to be damaged in any way. This was not the normal anti-theft wheel/ignition lock. This happened once before (about two years ago).I contact kollywood locksmith in future also because only they can only resolve my problem.
