Which way round does the standard fan fit? Smooth side to engine or rad?

smooth side to the engine - it should actually have 'engine side' stamped onto that part, often covered in oily rubbery residue though...

Ta. Couldn't spot that on the fan (but I was in a bad mood after braking some other bits.... the red mist & all that!)
