Hi all,

This may have already been covered but I'm planning on stripping out my bland grey Rover interior and replacing it with a 60's - ish style. Centre speedo - that kind of thing.

I was wondering if anyone has actually attempted this themselves?

I love old school but hate the 90's so the interior has to go and I'd love my interior to be 'as like' a 60's one as possible. I'm not expecting it to be easy or cheap but was hoping some other people may have done this and if so - tell me your experience and post up before and afters?

I'm not looking for negative comments on originality etc, just some advice :)

Thanks all.

ive heard of a few people who have done this, i really love the 60's/70's look, hence why i bought a 76 saloon, if you change to the centre clock it just means you will have extra wires and things not doing anything, the only think that would not be worth changing is the row of switches in the middle,

Yeah the heater unit and control panel that hosts the light switch etc will be unchanged. The main thing I want to change to resemble the 60's look are:

Centre speedo
Wooden steering wheel
Seats
everything thats grey to be changed to a vinyl/leather black piped look

Wow, thats exactly what I had in mind! Absolutely love it!

Gonna have to start reading your project thread and have a thorough read tonight I think. I'll be interested in the speedo (need to look through the thread properly to see it first). So might give you a PM tonight :)

I'd suggest you to completely remove the top dash rail, you can use some vinyl leatherette to cover the metal top rial then fit the old type ashtray.
You can buy a used centre binnacle with speedo+ fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge for around £50. They sell the centre speedo conversion loom at minispares, but you make fabricate your own. Some cobra classic seats will be a nice addition too.
If you can match the retro interior style with simple exterior mods like some 10" wheels and MK2 tail lights, you'll have a very nice looking mini!

there's a guide to converting to a centre speedo:

I agree with jaydee; mk2 lights and 10"s will finish it off.

that is very nice hegnirst :D

This is also something i would love to do to mine, love the centre speedo and then planning on fitting a rev counter possibly behind the steering wheel, cobra classic seats and black vinyl dash.
Centre speedo's on ebay seem to go for stupid money and are usually just the speedo none of the mountings
