I haven't taken any pictures of my mini for quite some time now, I bought a Canon SX40 the other day and I need photos for an agreed valuation, so I decided to go out while we had a bit of sun and no rain to take some pictures. I managed to find a nice little spot to take them, I even got a visit from a cat (shown below), but also a lot of flies towards the end of the shoot. It's my first real go with the camera so they're not perfect shots but the quality of the camera certainly helped me a lot, along with the odd bursts of sunshine to give some rather nice shots. I did take more, playing with the various settings but I've picked the best ones out to show you.

Bearing in mind the car hasn't been cleaned, although I did give the front bumper a bit of a polish earlier when I couldn't get my new one with corner bars and over riders to fit with the spotlamp bar :( So don't scream at me because of horrible, rusty chrome bumpers, they'll be gone soon! You can shout out about the rusty doors though :(

Anyway, here we go:

True, most people tend to go for Red Bull or Transformers but I wanted something different. I was drinking JD and coke before lager, and been drinking it ever since so it only seemed right. It also looks similar to the decals which were on the wheels before (superlight) so it's something you don't really notice unless you're looking hard.

Thanks for all the comments guys, means a lot to know other people like you're car.

It actually needs a bit of a refurb, chipped paint and rusty in places, but a sand down and a lick of paint will take it back to all it's former glory. If anybody knows a paint code which matches those roof racks, that would be a great help.

Clean them and use meth spirits or something similar to degrease them. I then used spray adhesive and start sticking down strips out cut out of old beano and dandy comics then finally use clear lacquer. There's a thread on here about comic stripping if you search around for it. The problems I've got are that I sprayed the the front doorcards black with flexi vinyl paint previously and it seems to be showing through and parts of it are peeling off. The alternative to spray adhesive is PVA glue and you can use varnish instead of lacquer. I need to do them again really, too much of it is coming off. When I get round to it, I will be using PVA glue (spray adhesive was a mess and you can't get it all off washing your hands so you have dried glue on your hands for days) and using a couple of base layers of newspaper strips and then a few layers of comic strips, which should stop it peeling off and anything showing through. I'll probably use varnish to finish it off too, and see how it compares.

They do get a lot of comments at shows, as fair as I know, I'm the only person with comic strip doorcards, especially beano ones. The more observant people would notice that the one side of the car is beano, the other is dandy.

Ebay, cost me £80. Just have to keep you're eye out for them, they go for around £150 new so you can pick up a bargain.

I'm sure there was another website which was selling them, they had the same picture as the first link (better quality image too, so I think that website robbed it off them) and IIRC they also had an ebay page selling them which I can't find either. I'm guessing they've stopped selling them, although the prices were similar. You might be able to find the link if you search for roof racks on TMF, it was regularly linked to by other members. They are expensive new though, far more expensive than they cost to make but there's not enough out there to satisfy demand so they charge more than is necessary for them. I eventually got lucky, I had been watching roof racks on ebay for months, putting in low bids in the hope I'd get a cheap one and any good deals seemed to be miles away (roof racks tend to be collection only). In the end I was watching this monte one for the last couple of days and the final morning it still had no bids, I won it with two bids - upped it a bit at the end to try and beat anybody throwing in a late bid. Good luck getting one, I reckon it would look smart on you're mini.
