I'm having real problems removing my steering column. I've removed the pinch bolt and the bolt attaching the column to the lower dash. However I can't get the column to lift off.

I've had 2 people pulling on it for the last hour and it's going nowhere. I've tried widening the pinch collar with a chisel but don't seem to he getting anywhere.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

tap an old screwdriver in the clamp bit to give it a bit of a gap and rock the column side to side slightly while pulling

sounds like its rusted in place. Soak it in Wd40 or Gt85. Leave for a while and they strike the side of the clamp sharply with a hammer to help shock it off.

I figured it was prob rusted on, I had to fix a hole quite near it so will have been getting nice and damp...

I've covered it in penetrating oil and will come back to it at the weekend (providing my back stops hurting!)

Finally got it off!!!

I've been soaking it in penetrating spray daily for the last week and managed to get it free using a breaker bar to lever it off. Now onto the next annoying job!

Check the spline inside carefully. When they seize in place like this it's often because a section of the spline has worn and then the column position has shifted slightly, jamming the end of the pinion spline against the undamaged section of spline inside. You have to wiggle the column to engage the spline and then it will slide over.
