I have a 998 with only 27k Miles from new. The engine has been regularly serviced since I've owned it. I in a couple of months I will be moving and I'm trying to decide if I should hire an auto transporter or drive the car. In total I will have to drive the car 2500 miles in 7 days.

Has anyone ever tried to drive this far with a 998?

It would be much cheaper to drive the car but will I make the trip?

Or, should I just spend the money on a transporter company?

What is the average mileage anyone has gotten out of a 998?

Help me decide what to do!!

:tumble:

It will depend entirely how reliable your engine is. I don't see why it won't, my 998 was sat for three years without no running. Fired it up, and did 150mile round trip with no problems obviously after an oil change and service. If it hasn't been serviced recently, do it beforehand. Easy enough. Increase your chances of it running smooth, and take a bottle of wd40 if you haven't got a weathershield in case you hit bad rain! (most likely in this country!)

I did a 300 mile round trip and my car is defiantly nothing perfect condition!
they were built to last. people just don't trust them.
I averaged about 40mpg but sat at 70, sitting at 60 would be better

that's an average of 350 miles a day!

You may struggle to do it!

It'll be fine, I'd do it on a 100k engine and yours is very low mileage.

That's only just over half what you're going to have to do in a day, then the next day you're going to have to get up and do it all again, and the day after etc etc.

How much is it to get the car transported?

Average quote I got was around £800

I bet it would cost you £400 in fuel, plus your time!

If you're going to do it then service your car before you set off, check the oil and water every day, check all the tyre pressures etc.

I don't think the car is the weak point though, in a mini the journey will be very tiring, and you'll pobably want to stick to 65ish, it'll be very boring.

Think about what you could achieve in the 7 days whilst the car is being transported!

Are you going to have to pay for accomodation en-route?

I'll have to do the trip anyways with the wife in her car. So we will either be driving it together or in seperate cars. Luckly my company will be paying for each accomodation.

I think it would be a lot easier to drive it together as you can share the driving!

What car does she drive? Could you put the mini on a trailer and tow it?

Already thought of that. Its not recommended that her car tow anything over 2000lbs. Trailer + Mini would be to much for her car.

Give it a good service and just drive it.
There are those of us who used to have a Mini as our only car and I used to do around 30,000 miles per annum in mine back in the 60's.
Just carry a basic tool kit, but make sure it is properly serviced before you set off with top quality oil, new spark plugs and maybe a new set of ignition leads, suspension greased, back brakes adjusted, hydraulic resevoirs full with fluid, good brake pads, good tyres, all electrics working and connections to coil, lights, fusebox & alternator all firmly on.
Have a nice trip.
My son is 6ft 4ins and he just fitted a set of seat adjusters. I'm 6ft and have never had any problems fitting into Minis.
