Fairly new to this, and it is also the first time i've used photobucket, so please excuse the crap. >_<

I took of my carb today, with the intention of servicing it. The car is down on the log book as a 84' City E, however we know it has been played with in its past.

I am thinking its still the HS4, but would love someone with some knowledge/experiance to confirm this for me :D

More to the point of the topic, I want to fit a heat shield between the carb and manifold. I know the Howley manifold is not standard, but am I correct in thinking it is a good one?

As for heat shields, am i able to buy these ready made or does anyone have pictures of bough/homemade ones?

Would love to see pictures and any information would be greatly recieved.

Thanks, Jack

this is still a HS4 waxstat carb and the howley manifold is a good 1 but for a heat shield i am not sure which is best. is there any need for 1? are you having problems with the carb over heating.

Cheer for the response guys.

I havent had the car very long and the blanked off breather is sort of what has lead to this mini engine overhaul.

I've bought a rebuild kit for the carb and hopefully, with a few other bits too look at, we (my dad and I) can return the engine so its operating correctly >_<

The howley inlet is a very good one, you dont need an heatshield with a single HS4, totally pointless. Route the fuel line to leave at least 1" clearance from the exhaust.
Connect the crankcase breather.

Looks like you're missing the choke cable so i can guess it runs rich and you were not using the choke to start the engine..

I've been given some armoured fuel pipe, and i willl re route it still, just incase.
>_<

Is there anything else i should know before I go ahead?

anything else worth doing while the carb is off.

Cheers

Stupid question, where should the breather on the carb connect too?

It connects to the breather which, on my '84 mini, is mounted to a plate on the back of the block - pic below. Some minis have this positioned near / on the clutch housing
