Err.. Hello. Remember me?
2 days ago I was considering spending some wonga on me e30 daily driver, with a duff engine and then I saw this for sale, 30mins drive away, for the same money. No-brainer!
Posted Image
Full Space framed body with fiesta macpherson front struts. Narrowed (by 160mm) rear beam from a focus integrated into frame, so disc brakes front (fiesta) and rear discs(focus), wilwood bias. Fiesta servo. Wheel base looks extended, rear wheels look a little further back than standard estate. Body seam welded. 1600cc zetec engine on bike carbs on waisted spark ignition. Facet Fuel pump. 5 speed manual gearbox with fiesta 1.4 diff(probably higher final drive). Cut down 'tuned' focus exhaust. Fiesta (i think) pas rack and pinion steering. Polycarbonate windows at rear. Digidash. Brantz laser 3 rally computer. CBS fuse box and battery box. 2 rage bucket seats with 4 point harnesses. Electric fan with adjustable thermostat. Extra fan on a switch -suspect!
-more spec to follow, but I have hardly even started going through it!

Goes fast and stops very well!

Needs lots of 'development'. Suspension setup. Engine setup (too much fuel- overuns on switch off, but at least its not running lean). Working choke and temp gauge would be nice too.
Other bad bits. One tyre is wrong size and scrubs. Switch gear is all placed very randomly and needs a dash and console revamp. Annoying floor mounted main beam/dip switch - right next to clutch pedal. Doors dont fit brilliant yet- need adjustment. Window winders are broken. Steering wheel is on wonkey. Everything in the bastard squeaks!
More pics and updates soon!

might be a silly question, but...

Is the engine in the front, or back?

Hows the zcar?

I am still doing zcar minus, I just needed a daily driver and now need to break my beamer up for parts.
The guy that built it has given me some pics from the build of the clubby. Engine is in the front.

Fuel tank is in the usual spot, and made to same dimensions but out of thicker guage steel.

I fixed the annoying squeak! Thank god.
Put a new tyre on it today and went for a proper blast. ******* its fast! It is also, without exeption the best braking mini I've ever been in. Very impressive.
I made the choke work too. Well sort of. I've sorted the mechanism, the cable pulls the aluminium block, which actuates the choke slide, but the cable is broken and won't lock off when it turns, so new cable needed. The choke has it's own return spring. The whole thing works really well, so I'm happy with it.

I don't think it will be any good for transporting my newborn around so I'll have to get rid of it before the baby turns up in November. But it will be fun while it lasts!

Also had a mate smugly point out that the VCT wasn't connected, but the variable cam timing on these zetecs is for emmissions and not for power, so no worries there.
Everything is working on the digidash now too, so I got accurate temperature readings, only to find out that the smiths guage was working all along. The car just doesn't get to temperature in normal driving so the rad needs blanking off a bit.
It's also got a Revotec Electric Fan Controller which is supposedly running the main fan. Plus a seperate auxillary fan controlled by a switch on the steering console. However both fans come on with the switch, and having just read the EFC instructions the adjuster screw should only move 3/4 turn from 70deg min to 120 deg max. Mine just turns and turns so that's probably bust and has been bodged through the Aux switch.
However with the engine and switch off I can hear the relay clicking as i turn it, so perhaps if that click is still responding at a set temp (rather than just off/on), I can avoid buying a new EFC and just glue the adjuster where it clicks.

Well this has come round quicker than I expected, I was hoping to rag this around for the whole summer, but my replacement grey euro box dull car has become available sooner than expected:
