i got the two off in about 30 different pieces.. £32 in parts and £19.99 stud extractor the job was done.

its a brilliant device its a reverse chuck as you undo it grips tighter and with the stud you only need about 6/7mm showing
i usually put it on my knocker gun and the magic happens..

I rounded off the bolt on every single head.
Then the Lump hammer and a chisel came out and I very carefully managed to prise cover from sandwich plate, sandwich plate from engine with a lot of brute force (and plenty of ignorance!).
Turned out the studs were 'rust welded' to the inside barrel of the sandwich plate and the cover.
When they were both off I doused the lot in WD40 and then got a pair of mole grips on the studs and they miraculously turned no bother!
Mini Spares sell a gold plated (should be, the price) set of three stainless steel studs to go back in which will avoid the same scenario but they need a few washers on top as they're long.

I've just JUST done this job.

Do you have a link to the gold plated stainless steel studs, i can't seem to find them. And while I am here any tips on how to remove the bolt? I snapped the head unfortunately.
