So I ordered a stage one kit from Huddersfield spares which I thought was a good idea. Once I received the kit I noticed that it did not come with a new needle or spring. I put on the kit anyway and used a friends upgraded spring. The only time that the car will run "like it should" is when you use full choke. This led me to believe I needed more fuel but my A/F ratio seems to be ok. Plugs are burning good and I used a color tester and according to the test I was running blue, which was good. I cant figure out what I need to do to make the car run like it should? Adjust the choke? or is it a matter of just tunning the carb until it runs right? Also at idle the car has a sound like there is an oversized cam if that makes sense, so very throaty. So basically I am lost on what to do. Any help right now is good help!!! Cheers!!

As above...sounds like you're too lean if you need the choke.
I think those kits usually come with an AAA or AAU needle.
What needle do you have installed at the moment?

its the same stock needle that was in the carb which i believe is an HS4. Simply because they didnt send a new one with the kit

Yes, you need a new one. But I guess you suspect that as you expected to receive one.

the needle for the stage one kit has a different profile to the standard one and is probably what is causing it to run lean...as above, i think it should be AAU but i'm not sure

Yes...but what needle??...need the number.
Take it out , read the letters on the top part of the shaft
Regardless...you'll need a richer needle most likely

AAu should be fine, best option is AAA + red spring.
