The subject of best cams keeps on cropping up and unless you want the car for competition there is no need to get complicated.
With a road engine most people won't actually notice the difference between similar cams from different manufacturers. For example, a Kent 266 is so similar to an MG Metro that there wil no discernable difference.
The Kent range is so wide that there is a different cam available for whatever you need. Yes, in certain circumstances a Piper 285 might give one or two bhp more or less than a Kent 266, but with everything else the same there won't be much between them. Look at the figures for lift and duration as a comparison.
Cams will appear different depending on such things as engine temperature, oil temperature, gearbox ratios, final drive ratio and so on.
Just look at the performance graphs for different cams and make your selection from that and the engine characteristics you want from yours.
In other words, be a bit scientific about it.
