Hi all,
Been lurking for a week or so, before and after sticking a deposit on what I think is a bit of a minter.
1982 Mayfair 998,
Auto (The wife is a tripeadleophobe),
Primula (She's a girl, too),
She'll also doubtless be joining me in here too, so on with the good bits before I get a slap! :D
19,000 miles, Ziebarted from new, and apart from a 2" blister on the bottom of the o/s doorskin,
no visible rust whatsoever, anywhere.
"Jimmy" will have a new ticket on collection, so for £1,800 I think we have done OK. Expect there might be better VFM if you have the time to hunt for it - but having looked at a few others, the condition of this one had me going for my wallet straight away. Interested in the opinions here though.

This looks like the sort of forum that will tolerate lots of dumb questions from a Mini noob, so apologies in advance - I do know how the search thing works though, so will try to bump old threads rather than fill the front page with new ones! :dontgetit:

PS: What's with the DC smileys?

Welcome 2 TMF, sounds like a good un.... but get the door cards off and have a good look inside to see if the bit of rust on the door is surface of hiding underneath..

Get yourself some POR 15
Clicky -

and some metal ready
Clciky again

and get the bit treated as it will only get worse...

sounds great though, good minis are getting hard to find.. :D

Cheers all!
Will certainly post some piccies when I get the chance.
MQ, DC= David Coulthard. :dontgetit:

Cooper_shaz: Oh yes! First thing I do when I get her (I suppose Jimmy could still be female!) is get her up on stands in the garage and cut out the rusty bit. Then, Ziebart notwithstanding, every single orifice I can find is getting filled with waxoyl!

This is the first time I'll have a) A garage and b ) A car small enough to work on inside it - my own XJ40 rather fills it up! I've also got a 30A point in there, so although it might be overkill for one little rust hole I got a big wish list on Ebay. :D

Finally got her home! :ermm:
A few corrections - 84 not 82 (reg and discs a bit of a giveaway, duh!) and 24k - put that one down to my short term memory. :dozing:
Doubt I'll have enough light to get pics up before weekend, but will follow. A right hoot to drive home, but I've added a rad flush and a look at the thermostat to the things to do list - temp gague barely moved off the stop on a 35 mile run home. :w00t:
Oh, and the heater knob is stuck. Stalled twice too, but presumably because she just wasn't warming up.
And a tiny wee rust pimple on back of roof, but got to be done!

All part of the joy of having a 22 year old car! :w00t:

[Ed] - On the plus side, the only bits needed for the new ticket were consumables - tyres, bulbs etc. Passed the retest with no advisories so we appear to have a dammed good base. Not got much planned, just removal of the (very few) rusty bits - loadsa waxoyl some spots and some tunes.
Until the wife gets promoted and a company car of course, then it's roll cage, brakes, engine and defo a manual box! :genius:
