Standard fitment on MPI minis straight from the factory so, I'd say yes, you can keep them in.

Does mean that any knock that catches the towing eye will be taken directly into the front subframe ....

Of course you keep the towing eyes in - that's what they are for. In motor-sport they are mandatory for all competition.

I'd rather not have towing eyes, I mean why make it easier for a thief to tow it?

I think for anything sticking up high enough to hit the towing eye will cause more than just a knock- and it is higher than the bottom of the subframe and much higher than the gearbox anyway!

Cooperman I think he was referring to the laws/rules regarding jutting out objects/design where pedestrian collision is concerned, but I don't know much about the finer details and old cars have all sorts of shapes that would never pass modern design anyway!

There's more to stealing a car than sticking a strap on it and dragging it away! And it only takes 2 seconds to put a hook over a tie bar etc on the front suspension to do the same job :)

I was looking at getting a DSN classics towing eye for my project but i'm unsure whether aluminium is the best material to make one out of to be honest. They look good but are they practical?

Sorry for the thread hijack by the way

as i said in the other one of these threads,

The bumper would hit you first anyway, not the towing eye

Why do we have 2 of these floating around anyway?
