I am in the process of selecting a camshaft & followers for my engine that's curently at the machine shop. From previous experience I would like to use a Kent 266 cam, but due to lack of blanks these are quite expensive new, generally being well over £150 for a new Billet one, something I cannot really afford to go to.

I do not want to buy a secondhand camshaft unless I know its EXACT history personally as I don't want to be putting an unknown quantity into an engine that I have shelled out my savings for.

I have seen Piper BP270 cams advertised on the MiniSpeed advert in the recent Mini Magazine - is this a viable alternative? I noticed they also do their "own" MS 266 cams - does anyone have any experience of these? Or are they best avoided as I am not sure who makes them???

I do have a standard A plus cam as exchange though.

Best road cam is probably the Mg Metro one which is virtually identical to the Kent 266. Actually with a road car the difference between cams is academic really as you won't notice the difference between a 266, MG Metro, Piper 270, Sw5-07 and similer. True in competition the difference between cams will be noticed in terms of fractions of seconds on a lap time or on a rally stage, but not on the road.
