as it sounds im having problems with my balls
they just wont stay in!
on a serious note though whenever i remove my driveshaft the steel balls fall out
it seems they are abit to small for the hole and as ive found some horrific bodges on my car i think this may be another!
does anyone know how to recon this part of the driveshaft or what to do?
its on both sides and some stay in but a few pop out and can be placed back in by hand!
can provide pics at around 9:10pm tonight as im at work

The race with the balls its part of the pot joint, not the shaft.
Remove the race from the driveshaft and fit new pot joints.
Actually, fit new pot joints to the gearbx output shafts first, then slide the drivashafts in the pot joints, otherwise you wont be able to pass them through the subframe hole.

the pot joints are fixed to my gearbox and the balls are in my driveshaft sort of covered by the rubber gaiter
which you fasten over the gearbox pot joints when you slide the driveshaft in?

Pull whats rest of the joint out of the gearbox, and remove the race from the driveshaft. The driveshaft end is splined and goes into the pot joint. The pot joint is splined and goes in the gearbox output..pot is female (avoid sexual comments! LOL)

You have:
Drive shaft-pot joint-diff output shaft-diff-diff output shaft-pot joint-drive shaft
The pot joint has two main parts, the big POT that the driveshaft with the balls go into, and then you have a cage with balls in, that slides onto the end of the drive shaft. Have a look on minispares at what the parts look like, new, clean and grease free...should make more sense then!
Hope this helps

The pot joint comes complete greased and assembled. The race and the balls are matched parts, imagine it like a CV joint that rotate on a fixed axle.
