I recently purchased a 2000 mpi mini with A/C

I'm new to mini's but i notice that I get a lot of.. how should i put it. like belt/fan roar from the engine. I don't think anything is really wrong with the car but the engine dose not make a sweet noise. more like a truck from 1985 with a quiet exhaust and big fan. I would like the motor to sound a little more sporting. is there anything that can be done? the car seems to have a aftermarket muffler that isn't that loud but dose drone a bit.

is it just because i have extra accesorys running off the engine and that its so close with little sound insulation. it really dose not sound to pleasing

What are you used to for sound from an engine? I don't believe any A-series engine will have a pleasing "mechanical" sound (as opposed to the exhaust sound.) It's not going to have that sewing machine sound like a highly-tuned Japanese multi-valve 4 cylinder would have. Not sure what kind of non-exhaust sound you'd ever want to hear. Ticking valves?

If the engine is quiet, I'd say great, and tune the exhaust for the sound you want.

One thing I'd love to see are photos of your air con setup for the 2000 MPi, and any A/C information you have (is their a manufacturer name attached to the A/C hardware or in the owner's documentation?.)

Air conditioning for the late model Minis is very poorly documented, and more information on this would be most valuable to the community. Every year or so there are questions on how A/C can be fitted to a MPi Mini, and very few answers...

Had the same roar many years ago with 1100 transplant to mini traveller. There was never any problem. I think it came from the fan blowing like a b-stard as I changed from a million blade plastic to a 4-blade metal with blades like water wheel scoops. I thought it rather good. If you dont like it get a more refined and smoother fan, and a louder exhaust to take the attention away.

If there's a constant fan whirring sound, I wonder if this car has the electric "cooling fan" is always on problem? The fan shouldn't be on when cold.
