Did you fit the gearbox anti-leak seal kit?
Have you replaced engine steady bushes?

If it is post 1976 approximately (not sure of the exact date, only going by what my Minis had) it should have a front lower steady from the gearbox to the subframe crossmember. The original gearbox bracket is too thin, and suffers fatigue fracture. By 1984 the bracket was thicker.

i didnt replace the engine steady bushes as some people said do, some said dont, some said poly. so in the end i left them as thery were. its a 1990 shell... but has had variouse engines in. it dose however have the front engine steady from box to the front of the subframe, it comes off of a smally bracket.

All id like to know is if there was a gearbox steady needed? or what may be causing this? :S

Thanks Alot! Max

Check the rubber bobbin mounts under the gearlever housing.

The steady rod actually steadies the gearchange mechanism (base of gear lever) with respect to the gerabox, and is not an engine steady. It is part
32 in the Somerford diagram. If it is missing, loose, bent or broken, there will be problems.

Just order it by its part number, which is on the Somerford site. Hover your mouse over the number and a window will pop up with all the info you need, and the correct part number for your car.
