I put a photo up yesterday about what carbs they were, got told a few times that they were Amal carbs.

Regardless they haven't got a choke? Do they not have a choke mechanism on them or am I just being blind!

Nice carbs......I have no real idea, but a vague notion that you just tickle up the floats to flood the carbs slightly for starting? Probably talking mince...........as usual.....

Hmm possibly, it's just a bit of a pain not having a choke when it's cold, then again it sounds like it needs to be put on a rolling road anyway so maybe that'll help it out a bit :proud:

Just wondering if these carbs actually allow a choke, I just thought all carbs did ^_^

Not mince at all, that's exactly how you started a bike fitted with an Amal.

They are bike carbs I think..? Anyway so I guess there is no way of a choke with them? :proud:

And what do you mean by tickle up the floats to flood them?

There Amal Monobloc, 'Monobloc' means the float chamber is on the body of the carb......

Do they have a choke system? :D

Above the float chamber, there's the 'tickler' pin this is used to basically flood the engine. You'll need to experiment to get the right technique, but basically hold the pin down for a few seconds and then try starting.

Ahh ok I get you! :D

They're off British motorcycles like BSA,Matchless,AJS, Triumph from around the 60's. we've got crates full of them as my dad collects them.

Are they worth having or is it better of going back to normal carbs?

Well, you would probably get more performance out of a larger carb suited to that engine. However they would probably work okay for everyday use.

Cheers, so back to my original question anyway there is no choke system on these?

Yes monoblocs have both a choke and a tickler . The choke is a slide choke. Where your throttle cable enters the top of the carb, there is another hole for the choke cable. Number 17 on here: http://www.google.co...:93&tx=67&ty=59

Ahh so there is the ability to put a choke on them... how would you go about this as there is two of them though?

(I'm only used to my single SU on my mini)

Take the lid off, there is a rectangular hole in the slide where the choke goes. You will need a choke slide, a brass guide, a spring and a choke cable (perhaps 2-1 converter) To be honest it would be easier replacing it with an SU carb with a Venturi. If you want to sell the carbs I'll buy them. ;D

Aha I thought that'd end up coming out :shifty:
What sort of money are they worth?
And it looks like the manifold will only suit those carbs? >_<
