Sorry if this has been discussed before but.....
When i change down from 3rd to second my gearstick pops out of gear unless I am going very slowly. Also, when i am changing up into third and giving it some full acceleration, the clutch seems to stay down even though the clutch pedal is released.
I have a warm 1293 with unknow gearbox specs, probably never been touched since The car was built (1966).
So, i imagine the gearbox needs to come out. Is this something that I can fix(or attempt to fix) or does it need to go to a mechanic?
Thanks for looking

The gearbox is in the sump, so it's a fairly big job, done much easier by dropping the engine out all together. With the right tools it's not to hard to access the gearbox and see if there are any glaring faults, but gearboxes are very complicated bits of kit, so personally, I would be looking at taking it to a specialist. Saying that though, it would be better if you can get some of the labour done yourself, as it reduces costs at the garage. Just depends on how confident you feel you are really

Wow! Thank you for such a quick reply. I have taken the engine out and back in again to paint the engine bay so am confident I can get the gearbox off the engine. Whilst I have the engine out again, are there any things I should replace other then the gaskets?
I also forgot to mention it is a rod change box which I think is post 1975 gearbox.

The second problem - clutch not returning - suggests the lever pivot on the 'wok' urgently needs freeing off and oiling. Do this first - it's a 2 minute job. The jumping out of second problem - may be down to loose mounts etc, although generally it does mean badly worn dog teeth on 2nd gear - which is a stripdown job to repair. But - it is possible to live with it for many a mile while you save up /look for another gearbox.

Definitely the gaskets like you said! Other than that a good degrease all over, and maybe check any bushes while you're there and you've got the access!
Wish I could help more, but gearboxes are one of the things I refuse to work on, they're just so complicated!
Good luck though!

Excellent suggestions. I will oil the clutch lever. My mini is a weekend toy so I want to get it sorted. I have done a bit of reading now and it sounds like the propensity for me to make a mistake is pretty high. I'd rather do it once right, even if it costs a bit more, so will talk to the local mini mechanic.
