Exhaust Keeps Falling Off
#1

At the weekend i went over a speed bump at about 10mph and my exhaust fell off.
Today it did the same after driving 300 miles ok...
It comes apart where it joins the manifold.
I reattached it and did the bolts back up.
Any suggestions?

run the engine then tighten the clamps a tiny bit more when warm

I will take all your advise on board and repair it at the weekend.
How can I tell if its a rc40 (the decent stage one kit)?
If not I'm thinking about replacing it all lol

I decided to bite the bullet and booked an appointment for them to fit the new clamps.
I pull off my drive way, get half way down the road and the whole exhaust falls off.
It has now worn through the rubber mounts at the back.
Don't you just lovery minis?

I picked up some new clamps from kwick fit and drove home. Started to install them but couldn't get them to fit.

the exact same thing happened to me

I put it back on at the side of the road using some new clamps id bought and loads of exhaust paste and it hasn't happened since.
make sure your engine steadies are in good condition (rock the engine back and forth, there should be no real movement) and that you have all the correct clamps and obviously replace the rubber mount.

Obviously you haven't fitted it correctly if it falls off even once - never mind repeatedly. Hope you have deep pockets to pay Kwak Fut to do this simple job for you..........
I believe its because it gets caught on speed bumps....I'm sure the AA guy would have connected it properly.
Oh they were only going to charge £20

2. The clamp must 'bite' onto the outside diameter and the outside diameter must have two slots to allow it to bite onto the inner diameter. Use a thin shim of steel necessary.
3. There must be a support bracket from the manifold to the gearbox casing
4. There must be suffiicient rear mountings to prevent the system from being knocked backwards if it hits the ground.
5. Exhaust sealant paste does nothing to secure the exhaust.
6. If the car is lowered raise it back to standard ride height and gain both clearance and better road-holding.
