Should a 1979 mini with centre clocks have a cover on the hole in behind the centre clocks?

I know minis with the clocks in front of the driver do.

If so where can i get one if not can i fit a later cover?

It is normally wide open, except for a thick piece of sound insulation felt.

On cars used in competition that aperture has to be sealed off. I use a flat aluminium plate and use a longer speedo cable which goes in near the wiper motor and runs inside the car with a 90 degree bevel drive into the back of the speedo.

The longer speedo cable is an Austin/Morris 1100 one which is about 39" long (from memory). The 90 degree bevel drive to take the cable into the back of the speedo is from a Mk.2 Jaguar.
