What are the MOT specification/Requirements/Rules on rust?

Just wondering? Is surface rust okay?

It's all down to opinion really, as to how bad it is. There's distances between places like subframe mounts and seatbelt mounts that you can't have rust within, but because a mini's so small, almost any area falls in one of these areas.

Also, you don't really have 'surface rust' on a mini.

Let's see some pictures

This is the worst of it.

Life would be much easier if it was MOT'd then it could be left on the road. No room on drive.

Mums car, dads car, sisters car :/

I think the distance is in a radius os 30cm of the subframe mounts.

I think, as long as you can't push it through, and get a nice inspector, he will give you an advisory... However, I'd be worried about the rest of the car, and areas like the floor and boot floor

Ive checked all that don't worry. Its all solid. Including sills and subframes.

My next door neighbour does all the MOT's so should be okay.

For that rust on the front there you may get an advisory but as long as there are no sharp edges then that will be fine. Like previously mentioned any rust within 30CM's of a suspension hard point, seat belt mount will be a failure. If its surface rust with no perforation then they will issue an advisory.

It does seem to depend on the vehicle inspector on the day.

curious, why do you ask your next door neighbour to do the mot test, yet can't ask them if it needs sorting out for an mot?

Because, if you hadn't noticed. its 20 to 11pm and it is somewhat rude to knock on his door asking trivial questions like this? Just cause he's my neighbour and a friend doesn't mean i should waste his time.

I dont understand why people have to be sarcastic about this sort of thing he was asking a valid question no one knew the circumstances surrounding it... He was given and answer that's all there was too it.... Again this is off topic but even so let the guy ask his question.
