Evening all

I'm hopefully getting my Mini back in a few weeks so I'm starting to think of the bits I'd like to do to her to put my mark on her. A roof decal being one of them

Question is, I have a sunroof - how do I work around this? I guess I can carefully cut the sunroof shape out, leaving the middle bit on the glass, but surely then I'll have the black sunroof rubber on display..? Which would be a shame as it would ruin the look of the black, silver and white Union Flag decal I'm looking at getting.

Is there a way around this?

Thank you!

You could get two decals, one in standard vinyl and get another printed on whats called Contravision, this is a vinyl with tiny holes in it, allows you to seeout from the inside but looks solid from the outside. Usually fitted to rear windows of vans. You could get it all in Contravision so as it matches in colour perfect. We fit a lot of this style of vinyl on windows.

Oooooohhh, thank you. I hadn't heard of Contravision so will google that now :-) . I was just expecting to have the glass 'blocked out' but this sounds a much better plan!

Have you ever done a roof decal with a sunroof by any chance? I'm wondering how to handle the rubber round he glass? - stick over the rubber but cut around it so the window can be opened but you don't see the black rubber as it's under the decal (if this makes any sense! It does in my head) or will the decal not stick over the rubber properly and peel off after a few hot dry days or wet ones?

I did try Googling roof decals with a sunroof last night before I buy something and muck it up but couldn't find anything

Can't see how you're going to get around the sunroof situation... I've seen minis with webasto roofs and what remains of the decal surrounding it. You could do something similar, but I'd cut the vinyl at the point where the rubber starts, as overlapping it is asking for trouble (water ingress, dirt, peeling etc).

Thanks guys I'll PM roofless now, but that's worry theboybradley (but I'm a complete noobie to roof decals..) about the issues leaving the decal stuck to the sunroof rubber

I'd bite the bullet and cut it so it's only stuck to metal. Managed to find you an example.

Looks ok I suppose. Might look even better if you have a metal sunroof and can apply the decal to that too.

Blimey, I spent ages looking on Google and found nowt - ta! Mind you, I think the decal (union flag) might look odd with the sunroof bit completely removed? That was another thought for a while, to just cut it out and chuck it away...

I heard decals are hard to remove? If not, I don't mind testing out for £20-£30 to see if it bubbles on the rubber..

I'm afraid I don't know having never done it. I'm sure if you search a few people will have shared their experiences on here.

I had decals that ran from the rear 1/4 up onto the windows, over the top of the rubber seal. They seemed to stick pretty well, I just made sure I degreased and cleaned the rubber seal well first. As for removing them, its not difficult, aslong as the paint underneath is solid just apply some gentle heat(hairdryer) and peel back slowly.

Hiya, thank you for replying Darkscamp. I was after advice, didn't realise you fitted? If you do, would love to know a rough price (when you get two mins to stop and think that is!) but also if you fit at shows where I could meet you at a mid point? I'm North London, so a fair distance from Nottingham  . I don't fancy mucking it up myself if I can get it done properly
