I've changed many HG in the past and have always had 8 valve stem oil seals. So no brainer replacing them. My new HG set has only got 4, so do the seals go on the inlet or outlet?
Thanks.

Inlet. It's long been debated about putting seals on the exhaust, even Rover changed their mind.

Why is this, it is baffling.

Because oil will be sucked into the inlet along with fuel to be ignited. If oil is sucked in throug the exhaust it will be pushed out through the exhaust system. However it could still burn in the exhaust so I cover all the valve stems with seals.
