I was wondering if anyone on here knows if it possible to zinc plate brass and steel in the same process?? as i was going to try and repair an old metal clutch master cylinder lid which is lots of tiny rust holes by brazing it and re shapeing before having it re plated.

Probably. It depends on the process. Hot dip galvanising may cause problems because of the acid dip which they use first. Zinc electroplating may plate unevenly at first, and need quite a heavy coat. But is zinc really what you want, considering its appearance? You could use a DIY plating kit from someone like Frost, and nickel would look quite nice.

I think the original plating was tin, which is why it rusted. It is great until it is scratched.

If you are not sure if the plating is worth the effort, you can try this:

i am going getting it zinc plated as this gives an original looking clean silver and i had lots of carb nuts, bolts and linkages plated a few months back it and they all look brilliant and original plus it only cost me a tenner the get all the steel components off 3 carbs plated. i think i might have to give the platers a ring tomoz and see what they think be4 i start brazing the lid
