Hi all,
my petrol tank is rusty on the inside. I have scraped any loose stuff out as best I can and am pretty sure it is only surface rust but I need to get it out before refitting. Any ideas to de rust the inside??

You can get some stuff from Frost that coats the inside of your tank... but, to be honest for the same money, you can get a good used tank on ebay- unless you have a van/ pickup/ estate of course. If it's saloon, I'd be fitting a better one and be done with it.

I like BiltHamber products. I've used them on Spike. They just work.

Getting a rust free interior off ebay is the problem, they look nice outside but can't see inside unless there is one close enough to pick up. Two other options are cutting a hole in the side, cleaning the rust out and welding back up, or, a fuel filter to catch any crap till the rust has settled with the fuel.

I used this stuff on some nasty pitted components and can vouch for it as it stripped them back to bare metal for priming. http://www.bilthambe...eatments/deox-c I'll be treating mine with it when I eventually get to the stage of bolting things back on. I have no connection with them whatsoever.
Mix with hot water and leave it in the tank for the day. If your worried that parts of the tank have become a bit thin then that's another matter since you never know what a second hand item is hiding inside. After 25 years my TR7 tank eventually rusted out from the inside and had to be replaced. Mini tanks appear to be made from a thicker steel ..............

Build an electrolysis bath and do it properly. That way you don't have any crap to come floating off afterwards.
My friend Dave built the one we use and it cost about £3 altogether and removes rust from inside of tanks/parts or outside out depending on where the sacrificial anode is and whether it's in a bath or not.
Useful 'how to' here although there are many more on youtube.
Very satisfying process once you make it work, and unlike ANY of the 'paint on' solutions, this one leaves 100% clean metal.
Best of luck.
