I have a MkIII 1974/998 with stock setup and just noticed that after installing a new water pump and fan blade, that at low idle, there is a slight wobble from the pulley itself. I removed everything and made sure that the new pump spun freely with no awkward noise or wobble on the pump. I made sure to equally tighten all 4 bolts when mounting the fan to the pulley itself when re-installing. Belt was re-installed properly and hoping that the belt was not done too tightly.

Just seeing if this is normal for an old car.

Just not sure if I ever noticed this before or is it something that is tell tale sign of a bad pulley, belt was too tight and damaged the pulley over time, etc.

Thanks for the advice.

I guess it depends on the extent of the wobble.
Assuming that there is no noticeable wobble if you jiggle the fan blades (engine off of course), and the there is suitable tension in the fan belt, then a slight wobble that is not causing the fan to hit the rad should be ok.

There should be NO wobble - you need to find if it's the pump that's wobbling - or the pulley. Try another pulley ??
