I say this because I put a really cheap stereo in my Mini when I was 15 (all Boss kit, Motorworld special *shudder*)
It was a total waste of time

you've got a good 3 years to lean the mechanics, and to sort out some DECENT ICE

and by the way, when it comes to ICE, cheap is NOT good!

agreed, sort the car out so it drives really nicely and it in good condition, then worry about cosmetic stuff afterwards like chrome and ICE etc...

As far as audio goes with setting it up yourself, through my experience of audio (not neccessarily car) then it may well be one of the easiest things you do to you mini. Also, in 3 years when you are old enough, you will be able to get a much better, probably cheaper sound system.

I have bought a '92 Italian Job British Racing Green, comes with white alloys, custom interior etc and one of a thousand made.A visit to Arfon Bodycraft (Woody's Place!) new sills and side steps fitted) I have decided to fit a budget Ice into the Mini too,so if you want some ideas, free ice advice etc ask away.
I have been down that road with the rest of you I'm sure for building a sound system for high quiality and standard of Competition Specification, but there are so many Mini owners out there and here in North Wales I am showing members in our club www.snowdonminis.com how to.
Ebay! Don't you love it! Plays a big part in getting the stuff in and local press too.Visiting your local Car Audio Shop too will defo get you some kind of discount.Consider entering a 'Street Class' Sound Off Competition visit IASCA UK too, when an ICE shop hears of this they discount you well! hint hint

So far in my budget system: DVD Player In Dash £40 plus and old CD Tuner
2 X 8 Subs £38.00
4 x 2 Ways £30
Sound Proofing £18.00
EQ £2.99
Total cost willl be under £200,budget systems can be built and they will sound good to with tweeks
