im looking at a mini witch was and is still registered as a 998 but now has a 1275 how much does it cost to register it as a 1275 and how long would it take???? also if i registered it before i insured it would it cost me anymore than if i was to put it as a mod ....???

It wouldn't cost you anything (apart from the price of a stamp) to change the registration documents from a 998 to a 1275 and would probably take a couple of weeks to get your documents back.

As the car was originally a 998, it would always be classed as modified to 1275 wether you change the documents before you insure it or after.

You may need to get some documentary evidence for DVLA to accept the change. A receipt for the replacement engine or a letter on headed paper from a legitimate motor engineer is the usual.

Whether it's registered or not you should declare the 1275 engine as a modification to the car when you take out insurance. Some people don't because the insurance for a 998 is cheaper, however it is insurance fraud and could see you in trouble if you get found out.

Only your insurer can decide that. It will depend on how much NCD you have, your age, any points on your licence, whether the engine is further modified, etc.
You should get a new quotation before doing the mod in case they won't cover it. It could double your premium.
